Important maintenance information

Below is a summary of some of the questions we get asked, however the list is not exhaustive and we are more than happy to answer questions from our current or potential customers. Just call or drop us a line via our email address displayed on this site.

Q. How often should I empty my septic tank?

A. All manufacturers recommend once annual de-sludging at the very least, but it depends on the system you have installed as some systems require shorter timescales between maintenance visits.

Q.what are the implications for neglecting/increasing the time between maintenance visits?

A. Septic tank systems rely on the correct operation of the drainage field, sometimes known as the soakaway. If the sludge  is allowed to reach the level of the outlet and then enter the pipework and percolate into the drainage field then problems will arise. Its not a matter of if but when. These problems can be hugely expensive to rectify as without a working drainage field your septic tank just becomes an expensive cesspool that will require emptying every couple of weeks until you rectify the problem.

Q. Do I have any legal obligations regarding my septic tank or sewage treatment system?

A. You are legally obliged to keep your septic tank or small sewage treatment works in good working order to prevent groundwater contamination and other environmental issues which may arise. In Wales you also have to register your tank or small treatment works with Natural Resources Wales. This can be done here:
